Taiwan — crypto regulation

Status: partial · Last reviewed 2026-11-05

The Legislative Yuan passed Taiwan's first dedicated crypto law on 30 Jun 2026. It requires FSC licences for seven types of VASP, and stablecoin issuers need approval from both the central bank and the FSC. Penalties reach up to 10 years in prison for fraud or manipulation and 7 years for unlicensed operation. The law takes effect once the executive branch sets a date, and VASPs already AML-registered get 12 months to apply for a licence. Until then, the AML registration regime (since Nov 2024) applies, and the FSC proposed a domestic Travel Rule for transfers between platforms from Oct 2026.
