Switzerland — crypto regulation
Status: legal · Last reviewed 2026-11-05
One of the world's most developed crypto frameworks. The DLT Act (2021) amended ten federal laws, and FINMA actively licenses crypto firms, approving Switzerland's first retail Bitcoin ETF in Oct 2026. The consultation on new FINMA-supervised payment-instrument institution (stablecoin issuer) and crypto-institution licences closed on 6 Feb 2026; the Federal Council's dispatch to Parliament had not been published as of early Nov 2026. CARF crypto tax reporting was postponed and will apply from 1 Jan 2027 at the earliest. Crypto Valley hosts about 1,750 blockchain companies.
