Bolivia — crypto regulation
Status: partial · Last reviewed 2026-11-05
Historic reversal in June 2024: BCB Resolution 082/2024 lifted the crypto ban, and Supreme Decree 5384 (May 2025) recognised VASPs and tokenised assets. Bolivia remains on the FATF grey list. The Rodrigo Paz government (since Nov 2025) aims to bring digital assets into the formal financial system. Banks now sell or hold USDT for clients (Banco Bisa custody since 2024, state-owned Banco Unión's Yasta wallet since Apr 2026). In Jul 2026 the economy minister said the government was studying letting USDT circulate alongside the boliviano and the dollar, and in Sep 2026 it promised the IMF a robust supervisory framework for virtual assets.
