Barbados — crypto regulation
Status: partial · Last reviewed 2026-11-05
Cryptocurrency is legal but regulated only through the FSC/CBB Regulatory Sandbox and existing AML laws. No dedicated virtual assets law yet. The FSC launched a legislative reform project on virtual assets and VASPs (submissions closed Feb 2026) as part of a wider financial services overhaul. In Jul 2026 it ordered anyone operating or planning to operate as a VASP to identify themselves for a sectoral risk assessment. Bitt Digital pioneered the Digital Barbados Dollar, a blockchain-based CBDC pilot.
